Letter From the Chairman
At the most recent Joint Central and Executive Committee meeting, held on July 25th, we endorsed a number of Republican candidates with early filing deadlines for the upcoming municipal elections in November – over 120 in-cumbents are up for re-election, with many more qualified and capable candidates throwing their hats in the ring for local contests all across our county. Also at this meeting, I am proud to announce that Cuyahoga County was the first County Party Organization to endorse our very own Josh Mandel for the office of Ohio Treasurer. After all the official Party business had been concluded, we heard from our special guest of honor, former Speaker of the US House, Newt Gingrich! Newt spoke passionately regarding what America needs to do to get back on track, and the ‘Real Change’ that is needed – Jobs Here, Jobs Now, Jobs First! Additionally, Newt reinforced the idea that all politics is local & encouraged us to recruit candidates in every race for local and statewide offices.
We have a great slate of over 160 candidates running for local offices this year- all 58 municipalities in the county have elections this November, so be sure to check our website for our endorsed candidates in your area. Keep in mind that every one of our candidates on the ballot this year can use some extra hands to work on mailings, extra feet to walk door to door with them, and extra voices to help spread their message. While they may be “the candidate” it takes a small army of dedicated volunteers to win these local races so please inquire how you can be of assistance to these individuals. Also, look inside this issue for information on the precinct and polling location changes that have taken place countywide. Remember to vote early by mail, or vote at your polling place on November 3rd!
We are also very excited about the slate of candidates coming together for the GOP in 2010 many of whom will be stopping by our annual picnic this Saturday, August 29th! This group of qualified, energized candidates will be the beginning to our Republican renewal at the statewide level and I’m positive you will be hearing more about their campaigns following the 2009 municipal election cycle.
The Annual Phone Cards for the Troops Luncheon will be held on Patriots Day, September 11th, 2009 at Windows on the River 2000 Sycamore Street (west bank of the flats) The event will start at 11:15 and you can learn more and RSVP by contacting event co-chairs Sally Florkiewicz 440-247-6945 or Lucy Stickan 440-759-2551. This is a wonderful program where all of the money raised goes towards purchasing phone cards to be sent to active members of the Armed Services who are out there risking their lives to protect all of us and the freedoms we hold dear. We have received very sincere positive feedback from men & women in the service overseas, and from their families, about what a wonderful help and support it is to receive free phone cards from our program—the extra minutes that they get to talk with family members truly makes a world of difference. Please support this effort and show the Troops how much we appreciate all that they do for us!
Finally, Republican clubs all over the county are joining efforts to help our candidates. Notably, there will be a meet and greet with Mike DeWine, candidate for Ohio Attorney General at the Ohio Wine and Cheese Countywide Clubs event on Thursday, September 24 at the Rocky River Civic Center from 6 pm to 9 pm. The RPCC will be hosting a clambake to benefit Josh Mandel for State Treasurer on Columbus Day Monday, October 12 at Clifton Beach in Lakewood from 6-8pm.
Warmest regards,
